We stayed at the Timberridge Lodge and Waterpark, but there Smokey's BBQ sampler wasn't our thing that night. So we headed to the Grand Cafe knowing that there indeed was a Saturday buffet (seafood + prime rib), and that it was $30 a head with $10 for my daughter who is 4. Service was great and out of the five additional entrées I'd say there were two strong choices for me. (sugar cane skewered grilled shrimp and baked sweet potatoes with sweet topping). The pork loin and chicken entrees were a little dry. But with two solids put together with the prime rib (freshly sautéed mushrooms, au jus, horseradish cream or straight up horseradish). Peel and eat shrimp (a little tasteless) but the crab legs (salty near the body end), better down the legs. Fresh bread and refillable soft drinks/ice tea, and window side view of the back forest and the pool as the sun went down were nice touches. Dessert table offered chocolate cupcakes that did the job (maybe the chocolate cake even better?). Rice crispy treats and an assortment of things you can run through their chocolate fountain. The kids entrées where stationed at a low table where children could serve themselves. Here the fries and the chicken fingers were a little soggy (not much taste either), but the star here funny enough were the PBJs that were cut into serrated crustless squares or sealed half rounds. So for us who wanted to stay at the resort, and still make it back for storytime in the Lodge lobby, this was a treat with convenience. Attire is casual and it is the family friendly option at the Grand Geneva main building.

We had two meals here during our stay at the Grand Geneva - lunch when we arrived and breakfast the next morning. Lunch was by far the better of the two meals. Don't get the kettle chips on the side though, because I'm pretty sure they were out of a bag. Sweet potato fries were underdone and slightly soggy as well. The main part of our meals were both tasty though. Service was slightly lackluster. Husband needed a drink refill and I could hear our server talking to another server behind me instead of helping him. Slightly disappointing. Breakfast definitely left something to be desired. Service was MUCH better here, but the buffet food was simply buffet style food. The bacon was greasy, breakfast potatoes were just flat out cold, and the rest of the options were just not worth the $17.95 per person. I don't think the selection warranted that price tag either. "Made to order" waffles from the kitchen during the week, doesn't allow for the creativity you get on the weekends, another reason why I'm not a huge fan of the buffet. The plated meal the table next to us had looked good. If you're going to have breakfast, go that way! You'll probably have a better meal and pay less. If you're looking for convenience, this may be a good option, but if you have the time, head downtown for the many good options!

The resort was great, but the food and service in the Grand Café was not up to my expectations. Average food is acceptable but not with the resort price tag. Breakfast staff was quick on their feet, but the Thursday night staff was insufficient to meet the demands of the crowd. Service was slow; 30+ minutes to get a slice of cheesecake and a quesadilla.

We didn't realize that the buffet is only on weekends, but we thought that the regular menu was just as delicious. I had the classic Benedict and she had the egg white omelet - both of which were great and were generous portions. It was quite affordable too considering it is a restaurant inside of the hotel.

The food was not good at all. My wife and I both ordered the buffet on a Friday night. The seafood tasted old, the salad bar was boring, but the desserts were good. It cost me $100 for two buffets and one kids cheeseburger; I will not be returning.

We celebrated New Year's Eve dinner here this evening. They had a prime rib enhanced buffet, my family and I were quite impressed. Services as great-Donna was especially pleasant! The food was very good too. They had a healthy variety of choices and all was cooked quite nice. I would come again and recommend it to others..

My son (3 yr) and I stopped into the Grand Geneva for a day trip and we had the chance to grab lunch at the Grand Café. We arrived at the Host stand at 11:26am. I asked if they were serving lunch yet and they said lunch begins at 11:30am but they would gladly seat me and let me order from the lunch menu. The Hostess sat us by a window overlooking the lake and pool behind the resort. Our server came quickly and was very friendly, especially to my son. He ordered pizza and French fries; I ordered a grilled cheese and French fries. Rolls were brought out to the table as soon as they were ready and the food came out in the perfect amount of time. Everything tasted great and the cost was only about $20 for the two of us. The dining room was very nice, comfortable, and bright. Windows in the back of the restaurant look out over the pool and lake. It was definitely a perfect place for us to grab lunch before heading home.

Came here on a Tuesday evening. Very few people there good service. Food is okay from their menu. From reviews and other recommendations this place is awesome for breakfast only. Unless you want a burger or choice from a very limited entree section is stick to coming here in the mornings for the breakfast buffet.

We would have gone out to eat! Waitress made a valiant attempt to compensate for the lack luster presentation and taste of our dinners. The chef's decision to serve fried, formerly frozen, dried out turkey patty with "crunchy," flavorless tomatoes (currently in season and luscious everywhere else), with sweet potato fries that looked and tasted re-fried and an Asian salad, anemic looking with barely half of a hacked up chicken breast unevenly marinated in some kind of brown sauce and thrown on top of cabbage with a garnish of 3 chow mein noodles was unforgivable. If it wasn't bad enough with the food, the outrageous prices didn't help rationalization the experience. Go out to eat or try the other resort restaurants!

S-L-O-W kitchen. Average service at best. I waited 20 minutes for my salad, another 20 for my appetizer, had to ask for my second beer. They didn't bring me the appetizer I ordered, though the one they brought was very good. I enjoyed the food - my meal was close to excellent once it arrived. First night of three here. Looks like I will be checking out restaurants in town.

I come here all the time with the kids. Great food, nice little buffet. As always at the Grand Geneva, superb service and very friendly atmosphere. No pricier than most in area that are kid friendly.

Very below average food and the service was below par. Considering both, we also found it expensive. Ambiance is nice but we can attribute that to the restaurant being a part of the hotel.

We enjoyed exceptional service for our third visit in two years. And this can make up for a lot in a restaurant. We enjoyed the Saturday night Prime Rib Crab Leg buffet. The food was very good. While I would never list any buffet as fine dining, the food was excellent. My children (who were unusually well behaved), were treated extremely well, despite the bazaar orders we placed on their behalf. The buffet has a large enough variety that even a hearty eater couldn't get bored. Plus: + Service - shout out to waiter Jeff + Food - Great buffet selection, and high quality + Children's menu - fair portions, nice quality (yes I tried it) + Atmosphere - cozy, but not stuff, well spaced Minus: + The crab legs on the buffet were often empty! It was a crap shoot when this station was full or not. They would replenish, but the timing could be better.

We were searching for a dining place to go with our kids. I kept looking at reviews but was hesitant about heading over to the famous Popeye's restaurant as some the reviews were not so good and even said they were overpriced. So we decided to head over to the casual dining area of the Grand Geneva, the Grand Cafe. The staff was very nice. It wasn't very crowded, which is good for us because we have two little kids. They didn't have a big menu, however, they did have enough items where I had to deliberate between items a little bit. I ended up getting the Oriental Chicken Salad and my husband got the Steakburger and Sweet Potato fries. We split entrees, the salad was good, not the best asian chicken salad, but it will suffice. I tell you this, if you want a REAL good Asian Chicken Salad and you're in Chicago head right over to Pazzo's you will not be disappointed. Ok back on track, the burger and fries were decent. Not the best I've ever had but good enough and the sweet potato fries were pretty tasty. They had a pretty big menu for kids which was nice. They offered an activity page and crayons for the kids. As well, kids under 3 eat for free! Our waiter Stephen was super duper nice too. Overall a nice experience, I don't have high dining expectations for Lake Geneva based on reviews...or should I say lack of reviews....ugh....

Went here for a nice drive and lunch with a friend. Just missed the Sunday breakfast buffet. Instead we sat and ordered the hamburger and asked for the Big Boy sauce. I also ordered a bowl of the Corn Chowder. We split both. Now, if you remember Big Boy's, you know the sauce was the Big Mac secret sauce of its day. And it has not lost anything over the years. The owners of the Geneva Grand Resort, where the restaurant is located, owned a chain of Big Boys and thus the sauce. The burger came juicy, the sauce dripping and was delightful. The corn chowder was outlandishly good!. The fries with the burger, were very good too. It was snowing a little and looking out over the closed pool area and the golf course was nice. We wanted to try the big brunch at the Chophouse signature steakhouse, but were told that reservations were all full. The room stayed half empty from the time we came to the time we left. Go figure that one., But, who cares, Big Boy Sauce rules!

Great breakfast!!! We were here on an off season weekday so the buffet wasn't in effect but everything we ordered off the menu was fantastic! Denver omelette, French toast, pancakes, cafe potatoes...all awesome. The bacon was a bit on the greasy side but still very good. Service was exceptional as usual.

We went on the Fri/Sat Prime Rib Buffet for $24.95. It was good. Why was it good? Well, most importantly the food was great. The prime rib was good and it was dipped generously in aujus before serving. I had two helpings of that. Plus they offered two selection of fish (trout and catfish) and one selection of chicken. The trout was great. They also have 4 selections of pasta salad and a salad bar. Now the selection was a bit small but the food quality made up for it. Dessert included 5 variety of cakes/cheesecakes. They were good with coffee. Service was a bit slow initially. We were not greeted by the wait staff until 15 minutes after we were seated.. we were hungry and the buffet table was right there and we wanted to attack the table. However we wanted to be polite and wait for the wait staff but it took a long time for them to be available to us. Oh yeah, drinks (non-alcoholic) was included

I was at the Grand Geneva last weekend with my family. The two stars might seem a little harsh, but this place doesn't belong in this resort. It's like you enter a different country when you go from the resort lobby into the cafe. The resort is so professional and accomedating, the cafe is mediocre at best and super expensive to top it off. The breakfast buffet is $20 for adults. I admit that it is good, but come on, it's not that spectacular. On top of that the hostess we had suffered from chronic stink eye and a down right bad attitude. The place was half empty but it still took her 25 minutes to seat our party. I can handle a certain level of incompetence if it is at least done with a smile.
